OnePlus Nord: Everything You Need To Know ”

The newest OnePlus is the best mid-range device in the company’s line up. As we expected, the company is getting back to its roots of designing truly affordable smartphones that deliver a quality user experience for as little cash as possible.

OnePlus Nord is one of the most attractive devices from OnePlus we’ve witnessed in a while, and if you’re avid to learn all about it, you’ve come to the right place. From pricing, cons, and pros. Official specs, and our impression of the smartphones, here’s everything you need to know about the newest OnePlus Nord.

OnePlus Nord at a glance

The OnePlus made its first appearance on July 21 via online event. Sales officially sprang on August 4 in exclusive markets, including the UK. The new OnePlus device went on sale in India on August 6, but in the US, not yet.

As for its main specs, the OnePlus Nord is a mid-range, with much to offer. It features a Snapdragon 765G processor, up to 12GB of RAM, a big battery with Warp Charge 30T, four rear cameras, and 5G support.

Given its affordable price tag, the new OnePlus had to cut some corners. In addition to choosing a slower processor compared to the Snapdragon 865 buyers can get in the OnePlus 8 series, there‘s also no IP rating or wireless charging. You also get less storage (India only) and less base RAM than the brand’s flagships and plastic rails around the device instead of the more premium and stable metal.

What experts think of the OnePlus Nord?

Most recent reviews had a lot of good things to say about the new OnePlus Nord. However, they also pointed out a few areas where the device falls behind the competition.

To start with the good stuff, most reviews compliment the software experiences as well as the build quality, despite the smartphone having plastic rails instead of metal ones. They also praised the OnePlus’ Warp Charge 30T and 90Hz AMOLED display that brings the battery from zero to 100% in less than an hour.

The OnePlus Nord is a great smartphone overall, yet it’s not for everyone

On the other side of the coin, the OnePlus Nord doesn’t come with wireless charging and lacks a microSD card slot, although that’s kind of understandable given the price tag. And while the main camera is perfectly reliable, the other ones are far from perfect. So, if you’re out and about for a great camera phone, the OnePlus Nord should not be at the top of your shopping list.

That said, the OnePlus Nord is a great smartphone, although it doesn’t stand out from the crow too much. It can offer great value for money is an excellent choice for OnePlus Fans and those enjoying things like great software, but it’s not for everyone.

A day after the OnePlus announced the new Nord, they ran a poll asking people whether they think the OnePlus Nord is a yey or ney. Based on their answers, a great majority really like OnePlus’ mid-range smartphone. Out of almost 29,000 survey participants, 68.9% of them said the phone was great.

The 31.1% of those who vote “ney” berated the device’s lack of wireless charging, IP rating, and a headphone port. As for its questionable selfie camera, it didn’t help its case too much. As for its security, using an IP address different from your own will hinder everyone from recovering your data. The advantages of having a VPN on your OnePlus Nord are many but most important will always be privacy since all OnePlus are susceptible to hackers.

  • Excellent ergonomics and build, the phone feels smaller than it actually is.
  • High quality sounding stereo speakers
  • Super bright, smooth, and accurate 9Hz OLED screen.
  • Great battery life even in 90Hz mode.
  • Satisfactory main camera performance with great Night mode.
  • OxygenOS with more features than ever.

  • A bit pricey outside India and China cost more than a 7T when accounting for the storage.
  • Downgrade camera setup compared to the 7T and 7T Pro – an ineffective macro instead of telephoto.
  • The ultra-wide has no AF, and the 2x zoom is no match for a proper telephoto.
  • 4k videos not sharp enough.
  • No official IP68 certification (except for Verizon units and T-Mobile) and no wireless charging.

Is the OnePlus Nord worth buying?

As with any new gimmick that appears, it depends on what you’re after. If you can live without all the bells and whistles available in flagship smartphones, the new Nord should be on your list.

The handset is durable enough to handle daily tasks with ease, offering similar performance as the two-year-old Snapdragon 845. Yet, if you’re looking to play heavier games like Fortnite, you may have to look elsewhere.

One of the biggest reasons people choose the new Nord is for the software experience. Its OxygenOS is one of the best skins on the market, offering plenty of useful features while keeping a stock-like feel.
